About Dr. McDonough
Dr.
McDonough's calling to the profession of plastic surgery is unique. He
was born the oldest of 5 boys in 1959. In 1976 his family home caught fire. It
took the lives of his mother and younger brother while causing a severe burn injury
to him. (Click
here for the article). His recovery was the result of many dedicated professionals
and the endurance of over thirty reconstructive procedures. Dr. McDonough understands
the challenge involved in overcoming many of life's tribulations. He also appreciates
the importance of a team of professionals in helping patients face their challenges.
He and his staff are one such team.
After undergraduate studies at Ohio
University and Ohio State University, he enrolled and completed physical therapy
school at Cleveland State University. His involvement with burn rehabilitation
began at the Shriner Burns Institute in Cincinnati, OH. He ultimately established
a rehabilitation practice in Orlando, FL providing therapy to a variety of patients
with a multitude of problems including burn injury, neurological, and orthopaedic
trauma. This resulted in a special appreciation for plastic surgery and its role
in helping patients to restore function as well as appearance in the return to
productive lives in society.
After
8 years of practicing physical therapy and rehabilitation, Dr. McDonough earned
his M.D. degree at Case Western Reserve University. Thereafter, he completed a
microsurgical research fellowship studying electrical burn injury. His work was
presented at the American Burn Association national meeting in Nashville, TN.
He continued his training in general surgery at the University of South Florida
followed by a burn fellowship and completion of plastic surgery training at Vanderbilt
University. Dr. McDonough has authored or co-authored numerous articles with publications
in peer review journals.
As a surgeon, Dr. McDonough emphasizes the need
to restore, maintain, and improve the body, mind, and spirit. Whether recovering
from reconstructive or elective cosmetic surgery, patients heal faster with attention
to all aspects of their health including emotional well being, diet / nutrition,
and physical rehabilitation or exercise.
As a former patient and now
surgeon, Dr. McDonough has a personal perspective on patient care. He also understands
that each patient's needs are unique. And he and his team are committed to providing
each patient with individualized personal attention whether recovering from reconstructive
surgery or any one of many elective cosmetic procedures. Restoration involves
a multitude of intrinsic components in the renewal of body, mind, and spirit.
Mission Statement
We have the ability and responsibility to provide you with state of the art education
and treatment. At the time of your initial consultation a complete explanation
of your condition and options will be provided according to your individual needs.
Your total care plan will involve the intrinsic coordination of caring and compassionate
professionals. Should surgery be recommended, we utilize certified operating rooms
and board certified anesthesiologists. Most importantly, you will be assured safe
and confidential care.
Philosophy
Our practice philosophy embraces the ancient story of the Phoenix bird. There
are as many historians as versions of the tale. A common theme is that this bird
of beauteous plumage and charming song took flight from the first rose. It perished
in the flames of a cherub's sword after fruit was eaten from the tree of knowledge
in the Garden of Paradise. Miraculously, it was resurrected from its own ashes
to be more ravishing in color, song, and spirit than ever. Its radiance has come
to symbolize renewal and restoration.
Unlike the bird of this lovely
fable, our lives are mortal with many trials and tribulations. Dr. McDonough's
personal experiences lend themselves to helping you meet these challenges to the
best of your ability. Whether you are recovering from reconstructive surgery or
renewal through one of many cosmetic or self-improving procedures, he will help
you to do so in a dignified way with individualized help, support, and a personal
touch. A perfect balance between the art and science of medicine will ensure you
are the best you can be.
